Dr Bill Robbins at Sydney Dental Academy: A Two-Day Recap

The room didn't want to stop.

That's probably the best way to describe our first event at Sydney Dental Academy.

Dr Bill Robbins came to Sydney for the first time, and over two days he did what he does better than almost anyone, he made a room full of dentists think differently about diagnosis.

The lectures were sharp. The case discussions went deep. But what nobody really planned for was what happened at 4:30 on Friday afternoon.

The formal session ended. Nobody left.

Instead, everyone moved to the front of the room. Bill was in his element. Dr Tom Giblin was right there with him, steering the discussion, challenging ideas, building on them. The conversation kept going. Then it kept going some more. By the time we looked up, it was 8 o'clock and we'd brought out the pizza oven.

That's not something you plan. That's what happens when you put the right people in the right room.

What made it work wasn't just Bill. It was the mix. Early-career dentists sitting alongside clinicians with decades of experience. Different perspectives, different problems, different reference points, but all working from the same question: how do I think about this more clearly?

Some people had already read Bill's book. But reading it and sitting across from him, challenging a theory and having him engage with it openly and generously, that's a different experience entirely.

The feedback said it plainly. A lot of dentists left wishing they'd had access to this kind of thinking earlier. The ones who are earlier in their careers left with a mindset shift that most clinicians take years to find on their own.

Saturday had the same energy. Same depth, same engagement, same quality of discussion.

We'll be doing it all again. Bill will be back, and we'll announce the details through our newsletter first, so make sure you're on it.
