Global Diagnosis: Learn from Dr Bill Robbins This March
Feb 09, 2026
A Rare Opportunity for Australian Dentists
On March 20 and 21, 2026, Sydney Dental Academy is proud to host Dr Bill Robbins for his first teaching engagement in Sydney. Over two intensive days, Dr Robbins will guide a small group of dentists through his renowned Global Diagnosis course – a masterclass in clinical thinking and decision-making that has shaped how thousands of clinicians around the world approach complex cases.
This isn't just another continuing education course. It's an opportunity to learn directly from one of dentistry's most respected educators, in an intimate setting designed for deep learning and meaningful interaction.
Who Is Dr Bill Robbins?
Dr Bill Robbins is a US-based clinician and internationally recognised educator who has spent decades mentoring dentists across the globe. His teaching focuses not on memorising protocols or accumulating techniques, but on developing the clinical judgment that separates competent practitioners from truly exceptional ones.
Bill's approach is refreshingly practical. He doesn't teach what to think – he teaches how to think. Through real cases, diagnostic challenges, and treatment planning dilemmas, he guides clinicians to see patterns, ask better questions, and make more confident decisions.
For many dentists who have studied with Bill, his influence represents a turning point in their careers – the moment their clinical thinking matured from following algorithms to truly understanding the why behind their decisions.
What Is Global Diagnosis?
Global Diagnosis is Bill's signature course, developed and refined over decades of clinical practice and teaching. It's built around a central question: How do experienced clinicians actually diagnose and plan treatment for complex cases?
The answer isn't found in textbooks or decision trees. It's found in understanding:
- How to assess the whole patient, not just isolated problems
- How to prioritise findings and determine what matters most
- How to integrate multiple systems – occlusion, periodontics, restorative, aesthetics – into coherent treatment plans
- How to communicate diagnoses in ways that build trust and lead to case acceptance
- How to think critically about prognosis, risk, and long-term outcomes
This isn't theory. Every concept is grounded in real cases, real challenges, and real clinical decisions that Bill and other master clinicians have faced throughout their careers.
What Makes This Course Different?
1. Case-Based Learning
You won't sit through lecture slides. Instead, you'll work through actual cases – some straightforward, many complex, and learn how to approach diagnostic thinking systematically and thoughtfully.
2. Immediate Application
The frameworks and thinking processes you'll learn aren't academic exercises. They're tools you can apply in your practice immediately, starting with your very next complex case.
3. Focus on Clinical Judgment, Not Just Knowledge
Most continuing education courses give you more information. This course gives you better thinking. That's a difference you'll feel long after the two days are over.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for dentists who:
- Want to improve their diagnostic confidence with complex cases
- Are interested in comprehensive, whole-patient treatment planning
- Value clinical judgment and want to refine their decision-making process
- Are committed to lifelong learning and clinical excellence
- Want to learn from one of the profession's most respected educators
Whether you're a general dentist managing increasingly complex cases, a specialist looking to sharpen your diagnostic thinking, or an experienced clinician who wants to learn from a true master, this course will challenge and elevate your approach to dentistry.

Why Sydney Dental Academy?
This course marks the official opening of Sydney Dental Academy, a new centre for clinical education that I've been building over the past few years.
Dentistry has always been part of my life. My father was a dentist, and teaching has been a constant thread throughout my career. Sydney Dental Academy represents the convergence of two passions: clinical excellence and education.
Located in Frenchs Forest on Sydney's Northern Beaches, the academy sits alongside my clinical practice, The Centre for Implant and Restorative Dentistry. This allows education and real-world dentistry to exist in the same space, a principle I believe is essential for meaningful learning.
Beyond this course, Sydney Dental Academy will host regular programs with respected Australian and international clinicians, alongside a growing online education platform. Our focus is simple: clinical thinking and decision-making. Not just what to do, but why and how to think through the problems we face every day in practice.
Hosting Bill Robbins for our opening course feels like the perfect beginning.

A Personal Note
I've had the privilege of learning from Bill over the years, and I can say without hesitation that his teaching has fundamentally shaped how I approach diagnosis and treatment planning.
His ability to distil complex clinical situations into clear, thoughtful decision-making frameworks is extraordinary. More than that, he's generous with his knowledge and genuinely invested in helping dentists become better clinicians.
Bringing Bill to Sydney has been a goal of mine for some time. I'm thrilled to finally make it happen, and I hope you'll join us.
If you're serious about elevating your clinical judgment and learning from one of dentistry's true masters, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss.
I look forward to seeing you in March.
